California Food Handler Practice Exam 2026 – All-in-One Guide to Master Your Certification!

Wiping surfaces with a damp cloth without sanitizer is not an acceptable method of sanitizing because it does not effectively kill or remove harmful pathogens that can cause foodborne illness. Sanitation is a critical part of food safety, and proper methods must be employed to ensure that surfaces are free from bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants.

In contrast, using approved sanitizing solutions correctly, applying heat to sanitize surfaces, and utilizing disposable sanitizing wipes are all practices recognized for their effectiveness in reducing microbial contamination. Sanitizing solutions are formulated to eliminate pathogens when used as directed. Heat can kill bacteria and viruses on surfaces when applied at appropriate temperatures, and disposable sanitizing wipes often contain the necessary chemicals to disinfect surfaces properly. Therefore, these methods are considered acceptable and essential for maintaining food safety standards.
